Phoenix Management Consultants founder Glenn Deag is Melbourne born and bred and harnessed his hospitality skills at a youthful age.
Surrounded by hospitality people, chefs, owners and the like was trained from an early age at the Belvedere lodge in Richmond and the Lake View Hotel in Bendigo, although at this stage wasn’t certain of a career in the service industry.
Having been educated at St Kevin’s College he enjoyed an illustrious career in rowing and Australian Rules Football, which certainly taught him discipline.
Hospitality Management
Having been Australian champion at the age of 15 years and representing St Kevin’s First VIII in 2 Head of the Rivers, finishing 3rd & 2nd respectively he went on to row at the famous Mercantile Rowing Club where he went on to represent Victoria in 2 Kings Cups and Australia on 3 occasions, narrowly missing out on a Bronze medal in the World Championships.
Working in the Sporting goods field with Sportsworld and The Sportsman’s Warehouse throughout his rowing career allowed him the time to focus on rowing until retirement and taking on the hospitality industry with great gusto. Not settling for mediocrity went straight to management (as bar manager of 5 bars) at the famous Melbourne Underground under the guise of Brian Goldsmith and his team. Then travelling to Perth for the Australian defense of the Americas Cup worked at Scarborough Beach Hotel, Pinocchio’s Nightclub and actually ventured into some casual modeling.
Venue Management for Bars
Returning to Melbourne and working in Melbourne’s pub scene Glenn became quite proficient in the live entertainment field at The Argo Hotel, The Manhattan Hotel before being sourced to take on the old Loaded Dog Hotel.
